JET Heating Ltd · Companies House, active since Feb 2021
Shipbourne · one engineer, two fuels
A limited company with exactly one engineer in it. That is the point.
JET Heating Ltd was set up in February 2021 and is run by James Tayton. He answers the phone, he looks at the boiler, he gives you the price and he is the one who comes back if it needs a second look. Nothing is subcontracted to a van you have never seen, and nothing gets lost between an office and the engineer.
The unusual part is the fuel range. Plenty of engineers do gas, fewer are set up for oil, and around Shipbourne, Plaxtol and the lanes towards Sevenoaks a great many houses are off the mains gas network entirely. James is Gas Safe registered for natural gas and OFTEC registered for oil-fired appliances, so an oil boiler service and a gas landlord certificate can be booked with the same person.
In the business's own words: committed to addressing the need for reliable, intelligent and cost-effective solutions to central heating, hot water and plumbing problems. In practice that means telling you when a repair is the sensible answer, and telling you plainly when it is not.

Boiler installation & upgrade
New and replacement boilers on gas and oil — sized for the house, fitted by the engineer who quoted it, and demonstrated before he leaves.
Gas boiler service

Oil boiler service
OFTEC registered oil boiler servicing at £149 plus VAT — the service a great many houses around Shipbourne actually need.
Landlord Gas Safety Certificates
CP12 certificates for rented property: £99 plus VAT covering two appliances, additional appliances £25 plus VAT each.
Breakdowns & plumbing repairs
No heating, no hot water, a locked-out boiler or a leak — charged at £99 plus VAT per hour, minimum one hour.
Smart heating installation
Nest Pro installer — Nest and other smart heating controls fitted, wired properly and set up on your phone, from £150.
Why people ring JET
Gas engineers are common. Gas and oil, from one phone number, is not.
Around Shipbourne, Plaxtol and the lanes towards Sevenoaks a large share of houses were never connected to the mains gas grid, and an oil boiler needs a separate registration to touch. JET Heating holds both: Gas Safe registration for natural gas, OFTEC registration for oil-fired appliances. One engineer, one diary, one person who knows your system.
- James Tayton quotes the job, carries it out and answers the phone afterwards
- Gas Safe registered for gas — ask to see the ID card before any gas work starts
- OFTEC registered for oil-fired boilers, which many local gas engineers are not
- Nest Pro installer and registered Aqualisa installer for controls and showers
- Routine work priced on the site, plus VAT — no "prices on application"
- JET Heating Ltd, Companies House 13170411, active since February 2021

Registrations
What JET Heating is registered for — and how to check it yourself.
No badge wall and no numbers printed on a website you have no way of verifying. These are the registrations the business holds; the right way to satisfy yourself is to ask for the card at the door and look it up.
Gas Safe registered
For all natural gas work. Ask to see the ID card before any gas work starts — every registered engineer carries one, and it lists exactly which appliances they are signed off for.
OFTEC registered
For oil-fired appliances, which is what keeps the houses off the mains gas network in this part of Kent running.
Nest Pro installer
Nest and other smart heating controls installed and commissioned, then set up on your phone before James leaves.
Aqualisa registered installer
In-depth knowledge of the Aqualisa shower range, which is useful when a shower needs matching to the water pressure you actually have.

How the common jobs are done
Judge the engineer by the reasoning, not the sales pitch.
Every heating job starts with a diagnosis, not a parts list. Here is how four of the most common call-outs are approached in practice — from the first question asked at the door to the point the system is handed back working — so you know what to expect before you ring.

The oil boiler nobody has touched in three years
The situation — Off the mains gas network, the boiler is usually the most expensive thing in the house to run and the least likely to have been serviced. Oil is unforgiving about it: a clogged nozzle, dirty filters and a combustion head set by guesswork will burn measurably more oil every hour the boiler runs, and the first symptom is usually a smell or a lock-out rather than a bill you can see.
How James handles it — An oil service at £149 plus VAT is a strip and a set-up, not a glance: nozzle replaced, filters changed, electrodes checked and gapped, baffles and combustion chamber cleaned, then combustion tested and the head set to the figures the manufacturer actually specifies. Carried out under OFTEC registration, which is a separate qualification from gas — plenty of local engineers hold one but not the other.

A system that loses pressure overnight
The situation — The gauge reads one and a half bar when you top it up and half a bar three days later. Most people top it up again and carry on, which hides the fault and slowly fills the system with fresh, oxygenated water — the fastest way to corrode radiators from the inside and produce the sludge that makes them cold at the bottom.
How James handles it — Pressure has to be going somewhere: a weeping joint under a floor, a failed expansion vessel, a leaking pressure relief valve discharging quietly outside, or a pinhole in a radiator. The order of checks matters, and so does the honesty of the answer — a re-charged expansion vessel is an hour's work, while a buried leak is a different conversation. Breakdown and repair work is charged at £99 plus VAT per hour, minimum one hour, with parts agreed first.
Worth reading before you ring
Three guides, written to save you a call-out.

Guide 01
Boiler servicing: gas, oil and what actually happens
What a service covers on each fuel, why an oil boiler is less forgiving than a gas one, the difference between a basic service and a full strip and clean, and the questions to ask any engineer.

Guide 02
Landlord gas safety, in plain English
What a CP12 is, what counts as an appliance, the twelve-month and 28-day deadlines, what happens when a check fails, and what it costs here.

Guide 03
Fault finding: what to check before you ring
No heating, no hot water, a locked-out boiler, pressure that keeps dropping, a radiator cold at the bottom — the five-minute checks that sometimes save an hour on the bill.

Ring, WhatsApp or email
Call 07391 701168, or send a WhatsApp — a photo of the boiler's data badge and the fault code on the display saves a visit and often answers the question on the spot. Email office@jetheating.com if it is not urgent.
02
A price before the spanners
Routine work is on the published price list, so you know the number before James arrives. For a boiler change, a smart heating install or a bathroom, he comes out, looks at the actual pipework and quotes on what is there rather than on a guess over the phone.
03
Booked in, done, demonstrated
One engineer on site from start to finish. Gas work carried out to the standards a Gas Safe registered engineer has to meet, oil work to OFTEC's, controls set up on your phone before he leaves, and the job left clean.
